WISE India, Women in Science and Engineering is the brainchild of few like minded individuals (both men and women) who envisaged that a platform must be created to inspire and promote the huge pool of women engineers and scientists available in India. WISE India strives to bring about a change to the Indian women community, making them confident enough to choose science and engineering field. The scarcity of women in these fields is a matter of concern in most of the countries especially in India. This small number of women receiving degrees in the sciences and engineering translates to an even smaller percentage of women at top and middle level of management.
Though there are large number of women engineers and scientists employed in educational institutions / government bodies and public & private sector organizations, there is still lot of untapped talent available in the country. The numbers, however, start diminishing as the women move up the corporate ladder due to family and social commitments and gender bias prevalent in the organizations. A lot needs to be done and can be done to witness increasing numbers of women engineers and scientists in the field, especially at the top management and decision making level. It is with this view, Women in Science and Engineering-India was created to promote women engineers and scientists by increasing awareness, enhancing capacity building, dissemination and sharing of knowledge, providing mentoring and networking opportunities, organizing workshops / seminars / conferences and many more activities. Keeping the above ideals in place, let us embark upon a new journey which will see the growth of women engineers and scientists in real sense.
We aim to spread a message of awareness about the strengths and success stories of women engineers and see that their contributions are duly recognized in society. We shall endeavor to achieve our goals through following activities:
1. Create a Data Bank of Women Scientists and Engineers in India
2. Encourage Girl Child to take up Engineering and Science as a preferred career choice
3. Organize Seminars to enhance Leadership and technical skills
4. Encourage Participation of Women Scientists and Engineers in National and International Seminars
5. Give awards to commend the outstanding work done by women Engineers and Scientists
6. Interaction with Industry to support recruitment and retention of Women Engineers & scientists
7. Mentoring and providing support to women who have taken temporary break from their career and bring them back to mainstream
8. Promoting exchange of information, networking, advocacy of projects among women engineers and scientists
